Use and Maintenance of Ball Valves Used for Gas Pipes

Protection and management during construction
1. During the construction, it is very important to manage and protect the ball valve scientifically. The good management of the equipment can not only guarantee safety, but also greatly reduce the cost of construction and operation management. The following aspects should be paid attention to:
① Use precise methods to load and unload the valve to prevent mechanical damage to the valve. When hoisting the valve, the hoisting belt must not be tied to the valve stem or actuator. Otherwise,  the valve stem will be twisted; the sealing of the valve will fail and the gear box will be destroyed.
② Before leaving the factory, it is necessary to install blind plates at both ends of the valve to prevent water, sand and other impurities from entering the valve cavity during transportation and on the construction site, which will degrade and damage the sealing.
③ At the construction site, the valves should be placed neatly on the sleepers, and they should not be placed anywhere to prevent the sewage nozzles and grease injection nozzles from being damaged or broken.
④ Before assembling, the grease should be filled for the valve. On the one hand, the grease injection process can check whether the grease injection channel is unblocked, and on the other hand, the filled sealing surface of the seat and back cavity can prevent impurities from entering the sealing surface and back cavity. At the same time, damage to the valve seat due to high temperature generated by welding can be weakened to a certain extent.
⑤ Keep the valve in the fully open position in the entire assembly process.
⑥ When the welding is completed and the hydrostatic test is performed, a necessary amount of grease should be added in time.
⑦ After performing the hydrostatic test, the water in the valve cavity should be drained in time to prevent rusting and freezing.
 
2. Protection and maintenance suggestions during operation
① Periodically check the sealing of the valve by checking the drain nozzle. If there is an internal leakage, deal with the internal leakage based on the procedure.
② Inject a certain amount of new grease into the valve seat in time. The amount and frequency of the injection are determined by the frequency of the valve's movement. Inject a proper amount of grease after the valve moves once. Each injection may be 1/8 of the volume of the sealing system. Doing this is to prevent impurities in the pipeline from entering the back cavity of the valve seat to a great extent, affecting the movement of the valve seat, and causing sealing failure. Meanwhile, the sealing surface being in a "wet" condition is guaranteed. 
③ For valves that rarely move, make them move at least once a year. Meanwhile, inject an appropriate amount of grease, which not only prevents the ball and the valve seat from sticking, but also avoids the ball from dry grinding when it is moving, protecting the valve seat and ball. 
④ Comprehensively protect and maintain the ball valve before the beginning of winter, focusing on draining the water in the valve cavity and the actuator to prevent freezing in winter and affect the performance.
⑤ Replace the grease in the gear drive once a year.
⑥ Check the valve's sealing regularly. If there is any leakage, deal with it in time.
⑦ Eliminate rust and protect the exterior.
